Performances
Annual Season of Works
Each year Eveoke produces a season that consists of three or more full-length performances. Each show runs for one month or longer in theatres and sites throughout the city. Performances frame debates and stimulate discussion/ reflection on some of life’s most important social issues. So not only will these performances get your heart pounding – and make no mistake, they will get your heart pounding – they will get you thinking. By the end of one of Eveoke’s performances, you will have experienced something remarkable. And perhaps for the first time you’ll recognize there’s a difference between rising to your feet and taking a stand.
Eveoke’s Farm Teams
Eveoke’s Performing Group and Youth Performing Group regularly dance at schools, fairs and festivals throughout the region – more than 60 shows annually. By joining the troupes, Eveoke’s students learn to work together and learn the value of their collective voice. To quote Wille Reale of the 52nd Street Project: “I have seen the joy in their eyes and have heard it in their voices and I have watched them take a bow and come up taller." A good round of applause can often make someone’s whole day. Sometimes, it can make their whole life.

Education
Company School
Professional Concert Company performers teach more than 40 classes each week at Eveoke’s 6,500 square foot downtown headquarters. At Eveoke, something remarkable happens every day. Students learn new skills, develop positive self-images and form lasting friendships. In addition, many of those enrolled in dance classes, train to make the transition from student to performer. So what’s learned in class is eventually taken on stage.
Outreach Programming
Eveoke performers also teach more than two-dozen classes each week in schools and community centers throughout the region. More than 450 students regularly take classes at nocost to them due to the strong community partnerships Eveoke has developed since 1995. Students who want to further their study at Eveoke’s downtown headquarters are offered free classes because Eveoke directs most outreach efforts to underserved or low-income communities.
Professional Training Program: Students and Teachers
Students wishing to pursue part-time or full-time careers as choreographers, dancers or dance educators can audition for Eveoke’s prestigious Professional Training Program. Here, students begin transforming their dream career into a reality as they receive one-on-one mentoring and training from an Eveoke company member. Eveoke also teaches academic teachers how to incorporate the arts into their daily curriculum, so they can use movement to motivate students. Eveoke staff work in all subject areas with school teachers for one or more semesters and provide an ongoing curriculum for the classroom upon Eveoke’s departure.

Celebrate Dance Festival
One of the largest dance events of its kind, this free festival spans three days and presents more than 70 dance companies. San Diego is home to scores of different ethnicities and the region boasts a diversity that is truly world class. All types, styles, abilities, ethnicities and skill levels are invited to celebrate dance, making possible the widest range of cultural representation. Walk through Balboa Park and you’ll see performances, take workshops and enjoy a beautiful duet between art and nature.
While more than 12,000 residents and visitors attend Celebrate Dance Festival, this civic event makes an impact that lasts all year long.
