Eveoke weaves together passionate and powerful modern dance with positive hip-hop dance to create an inspiring tale that illuminates the qualities of heroes and heroines from our past and present. Hoping to awaken and jumpstart the everyday hero in all of us, the RISE assembly show uses the real-life stories of youth & adults from history and plants the seeds of activism in our present. Like the popular Hip Hop is Everywhere assembly, RISE includes an audience warm-up, games, and lots of student participation. Students will leave this assembly with a sense of empowerment, with an ability to distinguish between superheroes and real-life heroes, and a taste of their own inherent power to create the change they wish to see in their world. Heroes & heroines include Claudette Colvin (1960’s Civil Rights Movement), Gertrude Ederle (first female swimmer to cross the English Channel), the Lost Boys of Sudan (many of who live here in San Diego), and many more!
