Eveoke's 2010/2011 Assembly Show...
The Evolution of Hip Hop!

Prepare yourself for a vibrant and wildly funny show that traces the influences of how hip hop evolved into the art form that it is today. The Evolution of Hip Hop culminates the collaborative work of students, teachers, and artists from and in partnership with Eveoke Dance Theatre. The show not only explores the historical roots of hip hop but also climbs among the genre’s different and contemporary branches. Descending from its home in Africa, making its mark through the inner city and white suburbs, Hip Hop has transformed itself into a universal genre, language, and movement seeking a fulfillment.
In this show, high energy pieces will take audience members through African, Swing, Jazz & Blues, Vaudeville, Disco, and old-school Break dancing; illustrating the connections between the eras and how our history informs our present. To put it simply, The Evolution of Hip Hop takes you back to a good home cooked meal. The conscious thought and energy that once defined hip hop is served course by course, leaving you with the substantial fullness in your belly reminding you what it is to express and love a culture filled with so many voices and so much history. This humorous and sincere performance will open your eyes and challenge your assumptions of hip hop today.
